More and more people visit hospitals due to dermatitis seborrheic. The strong sunlight in summer heats the scalp and accelerates the secretion of sebum, which leads to inflammation on the scalp.

The dermatitis seborrheic causes itchy scalp, erythema and sore, scrab, dandruff, etc., and it can eventually lead to the hair loss.

Dr. Lee Moonwon from Lee Moon Won Korean medicine clinic said,Dermatitis seborrheic is hard to cure and easy to relapse, hence it must be treated constantly.and he added, Since the cause of worsening of dermatitis seborrheic is the excessive secretion of sebum, it requires scrupulous attention in summer.

We asked for Dr. Lee Moonwons advise for the people who suffer from dermatitis seborrheic every summer.

Weakening immunity leads to dryness and inflammation.

Dermatitis seborrheic is an inflammatory skin disease which is easier to occur in oily scalp, but since its an inflammation, it can occur in dry scalps.

Inflammation occurs when the external germs easily permeates due to weakened immunity. So the lower the immunity level, the more difficult it is to recover. Therefore, it is important to maintain health and immunity everyday. In order to do that, you must avoid overworking by having enough sleep, and release the stress through exercise or meditations.

Also, avoid instants foods that are filled with preservatives and eat plenty of healthy meals. You must change your lifestyle to increase immunity.

Major occurrence at the ages 20s~40s, but both male and female should be careful.

Dermatitis seborrheic often occurs to males at 29~40 years old, and even infants not older than three months with active sebum excretion. However, it seems to occur on men and women of all ages lately.

It is because you are exposed to excessive stress and instant foods. Also, the immunity of female is lower than that of the male, so the dermatitis seborrheic can be caused by acquired factors.

It may occur on infants, but it does not infect.

Dermatitis seborrheic is not an infective disease. Regardless of the sex, the infants may suffer from the dermatitis seborrheic because of active excretion of sebum.

In the case, yellowish lesion such as sore, scrab, etc. may occur on the childs head, which is called baby-head-oil.

The dermatitis seborrheic of an infant should not be worried because it disappears naturally after a year.

However, when breastfeeding the infant, the foods taken by the mother affects the milk, so oily, salty and strong-tasting foods should be avoided.

Also, do not try to remove the yellowish lesion on your childs head with hand, but use an olive oil or camellia oil to gently rub off.

Shampoo twice a day if the weather is hot and humid.

If you have oily scalp, you should wash your hair twice a day, morning and night. If this makes your scalp dry, you must wash your hair at least when you return home. While you are fast asleep, your scalp releases more sebum, and if dont wash the dust and bodily waste, the sebum will absorb the dust, block the
pores and worsen the dermatitis seborrheic.

How to shampoo your hair is as important as clean scalp. Before you wash your hair, comb your hair so that the bodily wastes is easier to remove. Make plenty foam in your hand with the shampoo, massage your scalp thoroughly, and wash off with warm water.

After shampoo, dry your hair before going to sleep because humidity worsens the dermatitis seborrheic.

Broccoli & carrot, dark-colored vegetables help improving the dermatitis seborrheic.

Animal fat is one of the factors of worsening dermatitis seborrheic. Therefore, avoid high-fat diet and ingest a broad variety of healthy foods in order to improve immunity. Foods dark in color such as spinach, water parsley, broccoli, carrot, etc. are rich in vitamins and minerals, which help the blood circulation of the scalp.Seaweeds such as laver, sea mustard, and kelp, foods rich in protein such as beans, milk, egg, and chicken, and foods rich in unsaturated fatty acid such as pecan and almond should also be taken.

Foods to avoid are instant foods such as noodle, pizza, hamburger, and caffeine drinks such as coffee and cocoa, and alcohol.
